Bushcraft, Outdoor Learning and First Aid

We want to share our knowledge, passion and skills while continuing to learn as much as we can. We are firm believers that a day without learning is a day of opportunities missed.

Learning and passing on knowledge is key to our success in the world. Teaching others the importance of the outdoors and how to connect with nature is vital at any and every stage. There are so many benefits to spending time in the outdoors jdjdj

Many of the skills held by our ancestors and previous generations have been lost, and in today’s society we are becoming increasingly disconnected from the land. We want to help restore that connection — and help you do the same.

Now, what is the connection to first aid, we hear you ask? It may not mirror the way our ancestors learnt to care for and heal others in their communities, but first aid remains a vital life skill.

So why did we choose to incorporate it into our practice and teaching? When you look at first aid statistics within the UK, the picture is quite alarming — and we wanted to play a part in helping to change that.

A study commissioned by the British Red Cross and conducted by the University of Manchester found that:

  • Up to 59 per cent of deaths from injury may have been prevented if first aid was given before the emergency medical services arrived.

  • first aid was only attempted in around half of all cases (excluding where the person was found dead) despite someone being at the scene of the accident before the arrival of the emergency medical services 96 per cent of the time.

Bushcraft

Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.

What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning Experiences

Our outdoor learning sessions invite learners to step outside, slow down, and truly connect with the natural world around them. Through hands-on exploration and thoughtful observation, learners are encouraged to notice, wonder, and become fully immersed in nature.

Each session is carefully designed to spark curiosity, inspire imagination, and bring joy to learning. Activities are engaging, meaningful, and memorable, helping learners build a deeper connection with both the outdoors and themselves.

Sessions run for a minimum of two hours and follow a clear, structured sequence. This step-by-step approach allows learners to gradually develop new skills and grow in confidence, progressing at a pace that suits their individual needs. Each session is mapped to relevant areas of the National Curriculum, ensuring clear educational value and alignment with statutory frameworks. However, sessions are not driven by fixed learning objectives

Learning Pathways

There are seven unique units to choose from, each offering a clear progression of skills and experiences. As learners complete a unit, they will receive a certificate to celebrate their achievements and recognise the effort they have put into their learning journey.

Flexible Packages

Our packages are fully flexible and can be tailored to suit:

  • Group size

  • Learning goals and desired outcomes

  • The pace and needs of your learners

This ensures every programme is meaningful, inclusive, and aligned with what you want your learners to gain from their time outdoors.

Curriculum outdoors

Taking the curriculum outdoor sessions are carefully designed to meet specific curriculum learning objectives, while offering an engaging and meaningful alternative to classroom-based learning. Each session is fully planned, resourced.

Sessions are designed to spark creativity, ignite imagination, and foster a positive attitude to learning through practical, hands-on experiences. Learning is purposeful and well-sequenced, while remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of learners.

These sessions can be aligned with a range of curriculum areas, including:

  • Maths

  • English

  • Science

  • History

  • Selected Technology units

The aim is to take the curriculum beyond the four walls of the classroom, placing exploration, application, and experiential learning at the centre.

Structure, Delivery & Progression

Sessions run for a minimum of two hours, extending up to four hours, depending on the intended learning outcomes and depth of study.

Delivery can be adapted for:

  • Small intervention groups

  • Targeted or focused ability groups

  • Class groups of up to 15 learners

Clear progression pathways and learning sequences can be mapped and shared before sessions begin. Programmes may be delivered as:

  • One-off curriculum “hook” sessions

  • Short sequences of learning

  • Longer, structured units of work

This ensures learning builds over time and supports a coherent and sequenced curriculum.

You will be provided with:

  • Clearly defined learning objectives aligned with curriculum expectations

  • Evidence suitable for pupil books

  • All resources and materials required for each session

First Aid courses

Our First Aid Courses are delivered in assoication with Act Fast First Aid

Level 3 Outdoor First Aid

The Level 3 Outdoor First Aid qualification (16 hours) is accredited by the awarding body ITC First.

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those working away from immediate assistance (more than 30 mins) in the remote and rural regions of the UK.

It is suitable for people working or spending recreational time in rural and remote settings and will maintain the license to practice for those with outdoor National Governing Body Instructor awards, such as Mountain Leaders, Climbing Instructors, Ski Instructors, Mountain Guides, Paddlesport Instructors, Mountain Bike Instructors, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Leaders, Horse Riders, Geography Field Trip Leaders and Forest School Leaders.

The course also meets the requirements of the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Statement of Good Practice for Outdoor First Aid Training at Band 3.

Course Duration & Assessment:

The training and assessment typically consists of a two day (16+ hour) course.

Students are assessed continuously by tutor observation of ‘real-life’ skills in a friendly and supportive way. There are no written tests to complete at the end of the course as the outcomes are assessed by demonstration of practical first aid in our fun and interactive outdoor scenario-based approach throughout the two days day.

This certificate is valid for three years and certificate renewal is by completion of another outdoor first aid course.

Level 3 Forest School First Aid

This course is accredited by ITC the awarding body and is designed for Forest School Practitioners.

The requirements for Forest School first aid can be met by completing an ITC Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid.  However, many groups prefer or require context specific and tailored training involving infants for instance, with a tailored, contextualised approach to content often mixing elements of infant/child/adult training as determined by the group.  This training course is designed to provide that flexibility.

This course is designed to provide outdoor incident management skills.  Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains.

Course Duration & Assessment

It is achieved by completing a 2-day(16 hour) course.
